THE BODY KNOWS ITS OWN SYMMETRY (2026)

This piece was created in 21 hours on Procreate and explores the connection between synesthesia and botany. I was drawn to the orchid as a mimetic plant: one that evolves through resemblance. In deceptive pollination, certain orchids imitate female insects to attract pollinators without offering nectar, relying instead on pattern, symmetry, and recognition.

I began thinking about this in relation to the synesthetic brain. Neuroscientist Vilayanur Ramachandran proposed that synesthesia may result from cross-wiring between sensory regions, suggesting that perception is less isolated than we imagine. In this piece, both the orchid and the brain become systems built to communicate through association and pattern.

The work was also created as part of a Procreate tutorial, documenting my digital drawing process step by step. Through this piece, I wanted to show both the conceptual thinking behind the image and the technical stages that brought it to life.
