Mirrored Birds (2021)
This piece features two birds mirrored in opposite directions, their backs merging into a shared center. It was an exercise in visual perception — how can you create a powerful composition with minimal elements? The symmetry is meant to challenge the viewer’s perspective and evoke a quiet sense of disorientation. It was also my first time rendering feathers in Procreate. I focused on capturing their softness and structure while keeping the swirling negative space between them consistent with the texture of the birds themselves. The goal was to make the space feel cohesive rather than decorative — like it belonged to the same visual system.
Above my signature, I added a timestamp and my Instagram handle to reflect the version printed for my booth at the Cup of Troy event. Printed on high-quality poster paper, this piece became one of the bestsellers during the event.
Reflections & Areas of Improvement
I could have pushed the lighting more to emphasize depth between the two forms.
The swirl patterns, while textural, may have benefited from more variation to better imply movement or mood.
