Yolked (2026)
Color Pencil on Bristol Paper, A4

Yolked marks my first serious exploration into colored pencil as a rendering medium. Drawn to the reference image for its glossy reflections and almost abstract quality up close, I approached the piece as an exercise in observation more than realism. What initially appeared to be simple egg yolks revealed unexpected colors: muted greens, cool blues, burgundy shadows, and shifting gradients hidden within the reflections.

The process became an interesting bridge between my digital and traditional practices. Many instincts from digital painting translated naturally, but colored pencil demanded a slower, more patient approach built through layering and gradual burnishing. Up close, the piece dissolves into texture and pigment; from a distance, the forms resolve back into something instantly recognizable.
