The concept for Womb emerged during a period of reflection, when I was listening to podcasts about inner child work and self-healing. At the time, I had begun journaling alongside my art practice and found myself returning to a few questions:
What did I fear most as a child?
What values was I brought up with?
Which ones do I still carry, and which have I let go of?
I wanted to respond to those questions visually rather than try to answer them outright. I placed a rendering of myself in the fetal position within the outline of a closed tulip, allowing the flower to function almost like a womb. There was something gentle about the closed form: protected and self-contained, but still holding the possibility of eventually opening and growing.
Womb was also one of the first times I actively integrated introspective writing into my drawing process. Rather than beginning with an image alone, the work grew out of questions I had been asking myself, allowing the act of drawing to become another way of working through them.
